I am not working for a consulting firm, but I am a geology student working for the department of transportation in the environmental section. I have noticed that consulting firms are very needy when it comes to geologists. There is definitely a shortage, so the firms will do almost anything to make you happy and make you want to work there. All the consulting firms I've been in contact with are in the process of raising their wages in order to make geologists more attracted to their firms. They usually only have 1 geologist so the work is very independent. I think it would be satisfying to know how essential you are to the firm.

Hope this helps!
References :
Are you or have you ever been a Geologist working for an environmental consulting firm? Do you like it?
Are you or have you ever been a Geologist working for an environmental consulting firm? Do you like it?
I am a geology student and have noticed many job oportunities for geologiest with environmental consulting firms. I know the pay can be good but is the job enjoyable? Was it your first pick? Do you feel good about your work at the end of the day? Just curious.
